A Plea For Religious Liberty
The Bloody Tenent of Persecution
201 Spring St.
Culpeper, VA 22701
We are a reformed theological ministry tracing our roots through the reformation of the 16th and 17th centuries. That reformation was a reaction to the church putting man-made traditions over and against the teachings of Jesus Christ. Here in our time we see the same tradition based religion replacing the teachings of Christ once again. In the spirit of that same reformation we seek reform once again.
Christ’s ministry called out the Pharisees, the religious leaders of Israel, releasing the people of God from their bondage. They had come to control the people with religious rules and regulations masked in traditions. He condemned them and offered his people the grace of God instead. Many of our religious leaders today have moved in the same direction of the Pharisees and have bound the people of God to the law and church traditions. We seek to reveal the grace of God through reform once again, purifying church teachings with biblical ones alone.
Through this we see ourselves as a new breed of puritan, a 21st century puritan, drawing on those of the past as a cloud of witnesses yet purifying even further than they had done. We believe that many of their practices were contemporary for the 17th century and, too, are in need of reforms. As 21st century puritans we worship in a 21st century manner and enjoy the many advances God has given with time, such as technology and knowledge.
We offer resources to those interested in purifying and relying on the grace of God instead of man-made traditions and rules. These resources rely on the scriptures alone and reformation and puritan theological teachings on them. We find our lead theological heritage of the puritans in the teaching of Roger Williams of New England. Like him, we see that the purification of religion begins with freedom of religion and ultimately the separation of church and state. Secular leaders are exploiting the religious leaders of today for their own gain. This is where we must begin.
